Dry Eye Evaluation and Management at Precision Eye Care
At Precision Eye Care, we specialize in the evaluation and management of dry eye, also known as Ocular Surface Disease. Dry eye is a common condition that can significantly affect your comfort and vision. Our office is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools to accurately assess and monitor your eye health, enabling us to provide tailored treatment plans for each patient.
Understanding Dry Eye
Dry eye occurs when there is an imbalance in the tear film, which may result from decreased tear production, excessive tear evaporation, or poor tear quality. There are several types of dry eye, and identifying the underlying cause is critical for effective management.
At-Home Treatments for Dry Eye
In many cases, dry eye symptoms can be alleviated with simple at-home remedies, such as:
-
Heat masks: Applying a warm compress or heat mask can help improve oil flow from the Meibomian glands, reducing tear evaporation. We recommend microwaveable heat masks for optimum benefit. Warm washcloths do not maintain heat long enough.
-
Specialized eyelid scrubs: Sterile eyelid scrubs can effectively remove debris and bacteria, promoting healthier eyes.
-
Nutritional supplements: Omega-3 fatty acid supplements may support tear production and overall eye health. We recommend HydroEye to our patients for the best relief.
-
Artificial tears: Using artificial tears regularly, at least four times a day, can provide essential moisture and relief. Consistent use is key to achieving the best results. We do not advise using Visine or Clear Eyes routinely.
Advanced Treatment Options
When at-home treatments are insufficient, our office offers a range of advanced options to manage dry eye and improve your quality of life:
-
BlephEx: A professional, in-office procedure that removes bacteria, oil, and debris from the eyelids, addressing blockages in the Meibomian glands.
-
Prescription eye drops: Medications such as Restasis, Xiidra, Cequa, and Vevye help reduce inflammation and increase tear production.
-
Nasal spray therapy: A specialized nasal spray stimulates the lacrimal gland to produce more of your own natural tears.
-
OptiLight therapy: FDA-approved light therapy designed to treat Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and ocular rosacea, targeting the root cause of dry eye to provide lasting relief.
